Maeklong Railway Market Train Times & Planning
Check Maeklong train arrivals and departures, choose a useful viewing window, and understand the last return train before leaving Bangkok.
Seeing the train at Maeklong is mostly a timing decision. The market trades around a working railway, so arrive with enough time to find a sensible viewing position rather than planning to step out of a vehicle at the scheduled minute. Use the published timetable below as your starting point, then confirm the day’s operation with the station or your guide.

Published Maeklong train times
| Train movement at Mae Klong station | Scheduled times |
|---|---|
| Arrivals from Ban Laem | 08:30 · 11:10 · 14:30 · 17:40 |
| Departures towards Ban Laem | 06:20 · 09:00 · 11:30 · 15:30 |
These are the times published by the State Railway of Thailand in its outbound timetable and return timetable. They describe station movements, rather than the exact second the train reaches your particular stall.
Which viewing window makes sense?
The 08:30 arrival and 09:00 departure create a useful morning pair; the 11:10 arrival and 11:30 departure offer another pair later. Choosing one of these windows gives your visit a clear focus without relying on a single photograph. Leave room for delays and local instructions. A timetable is a planning aid, not a guarantee that two movements will occur exactly as printed.

Arrive before the awnings move
Aim to reach the market comfortably before your chosen train. That buffer is a recommendation, not an official admission requirement. Walk through first, identify where vendors want visitors to stand, and agree a meeting place if your party separates. Do not wait for the warning signal before deciding where everyone should go.
Stay where railway staff and vendors direct you. Keep bags, umbrellas, phones and children clear of the train’s path; a camera held into the corridor is still an obstruction. Let stalls reopen after the train passes instead of stepping forward immediately. This is somebody’s workplace as well as a visitor attraction.
Watching the train and riding it are different
A seat aboard the train shows the market from inside the carriage. Watching from beside the stalls lets you see the awnings fold away. Decide which matters most before booking: a tour that visits the market does not automatically promise both perspectives.
The Floating Market and Train Market Experience explicitly lists a train ride through Maeklong and a longtail motorboat journey around Damnoen Saduak. Its described itinerary includes viewing another passage, although the sequence varies by departure. Read your selected time’s itinerary rather than assuming every departure runs in the same order.
The last return train changes your plan
The published final departure from Mae Klong is 15:30. The 17:40 arrival therefore does not have a later same-day return train in this timetable. If you choose the late arrival for sightseeing, arrange your onward transport before committing to it.
Traveling independently from Bangkok also involves two railway sections and a ferry, so the Maeklong timetable alone cannot establish a complete connection. Our Bangkok transport guide explains the transfers. Do not build a return journey around a connection that leaves no margin for the river crossing.
Let a tour handle the connections
The Damnoen Saduak Market and Maeklong Railway Market tour bundles roundtrip air-conditioned transport from Bangkok, an English-speaking guide, drinking water and a paddleboat experience. Hotel pickup depends on the option selected. This suits visitors who want the two markets without arranging their own train and ferry connections.
Check the meeting point and final drop-off separately. A departure labeled with hotel pickup does not, by itself, establish that the same hotel is the return stop. Leave breathing room before an evening reservation in Bangkok because road traffic adds uncertainty even when the train operates on time.
Frequently asked questions
Are these train times guaranteed for my travel date?
No. SRT asks travelers to check with the station before traveling and lists its 1690 information hotline. Confirm again close to your visit, especially if one particular movement determines your whole itinerary.
Does the market close between trains?
The train is one event within a working market day. TAT lists market hours of 06:00–18:00 on its Maeklong visitor page; individual stalls need not follow identical hours.
